Rubik and her family left Poland in 1988 and lived in Greece, Canada, and Umtata, South Africa. She used to study in a primary and secondary school in Częstochowa, Poland. Rubik was introduced to modeling while attending a British high school in Paris. She wanted to finish her schooling before officially becoming a model, and so only worked on school holidays. Her mother, father and sister still reside in Poland. Rubik began her modeling career soon after graduating from high school. She has been featured on the covers of various magazines, including French, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and German Vogue, Numéro, Flair, Russh, Nylon and Elle. She has modeled for such designers/brands as Givenchy, Chloé, Christian Dior, Hermès, Valentino, Gucci, , H&M, Gap, Fendi, Missoni, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel, Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, and Ralph Lauren. She has also done haute couture for Valentino, Chanel, Christian Lacroix and Elie Saab. She has appeared in editorials for Numéro, i-D, W Magazine, V Magazine, Harpers Bazaar, and Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, German, Spanish, British, French, and Italian Vogue. In 2008 casting agent James Scully, who is responsible to pick which model is to score a spot on top runways, says in regards to Rubik: The total package: perfect skin, amazing walk and the only model I can think of that never requires alterations at fittings. And she speaks with a slight lisp, which makes me melt. Most models would have ruined their careers by cutting off their hair, but it seems to have catapulted her to superstar ranks this year. Rubik was one of the faces to land in one of the fourteen covers of V magazine September 2008 issue. Each cover boasts a head shot of a famous model, either from the new crop of leading models (Agyness Deyn, Lara Stone, Natasha Poly, Daria Werbowy etc.) or the supermodel era (Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova), it was lensed by duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. She appeared in the 2009 & 2010 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Vogue Paris declared her one of the top 30 models of the 2000s.[6] She is currently ranked equal 3rd, behind Freja Beha Erichsen, on the Top 50 Models Women List and 23rd on the Top 25 Money Girls List, which ranks the highest earning high fashion models in the industry, by models.com. Rubik is featured in the 2009 fitness video game Yoga Wii for the Wii home console.[9] She was also an inspiration for a character in the manga "The One" as the main character Cane Lele. Rubik is featured in the 2011 Pirelli Calendar photographed by Karl Lagerfeld. Becomes one of the models to star in Lacoste's "new look" campaign in January, a different advertising concept for 2011 under the new tagline, "Unconventional Chic". The ads were shot by Mert and Marcus showing models wearing the iconic white Lacoste polo shirts worn over fancy black eveningwear. Rubik renewed her contract with Fendi for the third season in a row. Anja Rubik and her longtime boyfriend, model Sasha Knezevic got engaged just before Christmas 2010 in Vienna. Knezevic proposed to her in a really foggy night in the middle of the street after they went out to watch the musical Dance of the Vampires Rubik recalls, "Apparently he was carrying the ring around for a while. And that day, we fought all the day long. We were preparing the whole house for Christmas, and there were all these things to be done, and I had to cook, and I had to do this and that and the Christmas decorations... I couldn't find the ones I liked. So it was totally dramatic the whole day. I thought, 'I'm going to kill him.' I was like, 'I think this was my last Christmas ever' [with him]. And he said, 'I picked this day on purpose, because although we have our fights, we've been together and ra ra ra ...' And he's right." Afterwards, they had dinner on the rooftop of a restaurant building, "...it was really, really nice." They are expecting to have the wedding in May or June.
